27 Jul Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia purchases a third Family Retreat.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Western Australia (RMHC WA) has purchased it’s third Family Retreat property in Mandurah thanks the support of Lotterywest and the Krysyna family.
RMHC WA’s Family Retreats in Busselton, Bunbury and now Mandurah create an opportunity for sick children and their families to take a step back from focusing on illness or injury and enjoy time with each other, which has positive effects on a child’s recovery and overall physical and emotional wellbeing of the entire family.
With the average cost of a week away being $3000, 75% of RMHC families are financially unable to take time out to reconnect and adjust to the change in life circumstances without the help of the Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Program.
RMHC WA CEO Peter King “A serious diagnosis or injury of a child can turn families lives and future plans upside down. The emotional and financial burden can be overwhelming.
RMHC WA is there for them by providing essential family-centred care support and services for as long or as often as they need us.”
In 2022, around 40 families were waitlisted for WA’s fee-free Ronald McDonald Family Retreats. This recent purchase will enable RMHC WA to move bereaved families and those with sick children off waitlists and into holiday respite accommodation.
“For families with sick or injured children, holiday plans are often put aside due to costs and logistics.
Together with Lotterywest we’re changing this. With their continued support of our Ronald Family Retreat program, we are so thrilled to open our third retreat in Mandurah in addition to Bunbury and Busselton.”
Lotterywest CEO Ralph Addis said the $300,000 grant from Lotterywest will assist RHMC support the emotional and mental wellbeing of families with a child who has a serious illness.
“This latest grant marks almost a quarter of a century of Lotterywest support to RMHC, which totals more than $8.7 million in funding,” Mr Addis said.
“Lotterywest is proud to continue to support projects that help young families requiring medical care enjoy essential time away together.”
The Ronald McDonald Family Retreat Mandurah, will not only offer families a resort style holiday experience, its closer proximity to Perth CBD provides families needing to be near medical care at Perth Childrens Hospital the opportunity enjoy time away together.
